Art 1 Homework for January and February 2015

Art Homework  -  General Art 1   part 1                                         2014-15
Your homework assignments carry the minimum expectation for you to spend one hour of time at home on these projects.  The assignments are designed to challenge your imagination and powers of visual observation.  The assignments should be turned in on paper that is a minimum of 9” x 12” and should never be folded.  It is required that these be in a bound sketchbook.  Because the homework is given out well in advance of the due date late work will not be accepted.  All of these assignments may be done in after school work sessions if you wish.

DUE by Wednesday January 28, 3015
An Object- For this first assignment, try to select an object that you feel comfortable drawing but that is complex enough to challenge you.  You must work from observation.  In other words, look at a real object NOT a photo of an object.  Work in #2 pencil.  You do not need to develop the background.  Shade to show form, color-as shades of gray, and texture.

IT'S A SET UP!  Select three objects of varying dimensions.  For example, select one tall, one wide, and one round.  They do not have to be the same types of objects.  Place one object in the front of the other two so that it overlaps parts of the objects behind it.   SHINE a light on one side of the objects to create highlights and shadows.   Now draw what you see and shade it.  Fill in the background with any shadows that you see or with light shades of gray.   Work in #2 pencil.

HALVE YOU GOT IT?  Select one of the following vegetables.  Cut the vegetable in half and draw the inside of one half.  Fill the entire page, and shade your drawing to show the texture of the inside as well as the shadows and highlights.   Yes, this means you need a strong light source.   The vegetables are - green or red pepper, tomato, red cabbage, iceberg lettuce, onion.  Use pencil or colored pencil.  You may draw both halves if you wish (level of difficulty).
